Pirates Drop Opener To Cubs
The 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates season still looks brighter than seasons past, despite the 3-1 loss to the Cubs on Opening Day. Cubs starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija stepped to the mound at PNC Park and dominated the Pirates line up. While Pirates starter AJ Burnett, set an opening day Pirates record for strike outs with 10, but gave up 6 hits and 3 runs in only 5 innings.
Its to early for Bucco fans to turn in the towel even though we didn't see much from our beloved Pirates on day one. They are still working out the bugs and look to move forward and finish out the series with 2 consecutive wins. This seasons Pirates are not giving up. The late season downfall of the Pirates the last two years has this group determined to come out over 500.
The Pirates and the Cubs meet again on Wednesday April 3 at PNC Park. The Pirates will look to even the series and their overall record at 1-1 with Wandy Rodriguez taking the mound verse the Cubs Edwin Jackson. The first pitch will be thrown at 7:05pm and can be seen locally on Root Sports Pittsburgh.
